With so many different varieties of apples available, there’s sure to be one that you’ll enjoy and want to take a bite out of.  This is one of the healthiest foods to have on a snack when you’re hoping to watch your weight so make sure you start including it in your day.

Protein: 0.5 grams
Carbohydrates: 25.1 grams
Fat: 0.4 grams
Fiber: 4.4 grams

Major Nutrients Found In An Apple:

Well known for its dietary fiber, that’s the main nutrient you’re going to find in this fruit.  Since fiber plays a large role in keeping your appetite under control, if you’re trying to limit your calories this will be an ideal food choice for you.

Each apple you eat also contains a good dose of vitamin C, which will help to keep your immune system strong and prevent you from becoming ill.

Apples also contain a high level of flavonoids, which are going to provide antioxidant protection and keep your heart healthy while making sure that your blood pressure stays within a reasonable range as well.

Finally, some studies have illustrated that eating apples on a regular basis can help to regulate and lower the risk of developing asthma, so if that’s something that you’re struggling with or know you may be at risk for, you’ll definitely want to have an apple a day.

Storing/Selecting Apples:

Ideally you want to select apples that have a very firm skin and are rich in color.  If you’re looking for a sweeter tasting apple you should aim for Red or Golden Delicious while if you want something that’s a little more sour, the Granny Smith apple will be the one for you.

Apples will stay good for an extended period of time as long as they are kept in a cool, dry place.

If you plan on cooking with your apples, to prevent them from turning brown add a spoonful of lemon juice to some cold water and let them sit there for a few minutes.

Eat It With:

Apples are most commonly enjoyed on their as a snack or taste great when paired with peanut butter or cheese as well.  You can also toss apples into a regular fruit salad or add them to a bowl of hot oatmeal with some cinnamon for added flavour.

To burn off the number of calories in a apple you would have to do:

  • Walk for 15 minutes
  • Jog for 10 minutes
  • Skip for 8 minutes
  • Perform weight lifting exercise for 15 minutes
  • Cycle for 18 minutes
